Although I am an experienced middle school teacher, I had almost no experience in early learning classrooms. I knew that advocacy for small children would play a large role in my work as a community activist. With this in mind, I signed up for Cambridge School Volunteers in December and in January, began volunteering at the Amigos K-8 School, a two-way bilingual public school.
I stay for the full school day on Wednesdays, working in the pre-K classroom with lead teacher Noelle Danian, who has been fantastic about welcoming me into her wonderful classroom. Here in room 102, I'm getting to see what a great public pre-school program looks like, all through the lens of bilingual education. This is great experience for me and grounds my work with adults that is becoming more important in my work as a community builder.
